As I reflect on our past discussions of free will, determinism, and compatibilism, I ask myself, “Has my opinion changed about who writes the story of my life?” And my answer is “No”. I have always and will always believe in compatibilism. I believe that we, in conjunction with a higher power are responsible for our own lives. The only difference now is that I feel I have a much more clear understanding of compatibilism and how it presents itself in my life.
I currently find myself struggling to figure out what
I want for myself beyond graduating from Belmont University. I am surround by 18-20 something’s who seem
to have their lives figured out and know exactly what they want to do and how
they’re going to get there. Here I am a
38-year-old mother of 3 still unclear about my path. However, I take solace in knowing that the
choices I am making now and even up until I graduate are going to help shape this
path which will ultimately reveal itself to me in the appropriate time. How can
I trust in such an idea? I have lived
it. All the choices I have made lead me
here, to today, writing this blog. Some
may say the choices for how I have lived my life to this point may not have
been the “appropriate” or “right thing to do”, but I know that they were the
right choices for me.
I will continue to go through this journey of life
with an open heart and open mind and trusting in myself to make the right
decisions as the choices present themselves.
And I can be content in knowing that because of my decisions about
situations and events that have been placed before my by a higher power, I will
be exactly where I am supposed to be, when I am supposed to be there.
